I help improve the outcomes of patients of the Inclusive Health Clinic by providing care coordination, assisting with NDIS & Disability Support Pension applications, and other support & advocacy when there are no other supports in place. Being able to successfully advocate at QCAT hearings for participants to remain in their properties when faced with eviction has been a highlight of my time at Micah Projects. I really enjoy getting to be a part of people's lives and witnessing them achieve their goals.
I've been really enjoying the opportunity to support people to navigate complex systems such as housing, mental health and the NDIS as well as advocating for their choice and control in the decisions that affect their lives. I've been learning a lot from working alongside my wonderful team who have so much knowledge and experience in advocating for people.
I find this type of nursing work very rewarding. We do our best to try and help the most vulnerable people in society (such as Indigenous, Homeless, DV related). We deal with chronic illness management (such as diabetics, heart failure, COPD, Asthma, alcohol, and drug related issues). We try and find emergency accommodation when required, and advocate for permanent housing. We are involved in ongoing care, management and follow up of these people including taking them to their doctor’s appointments and liaising with other people involved in their care.
