Create and Connect
We offer two work experience programs if you want to get involved.
1. Cuppa and Chat
Come in for an hour and meet our team. We’ll walk through the café and explain how we operate over a coffee. You are welcome to bring a support person, relative or friend. We’ll discuss your work experience and discuss how we can help you to develop your skills in the hospitality industry – and make some new friends while you’re here. This is a great opportunity if you need to gain more skills and experience for your resume.
2. Hope Street Training Program
This program is run in partnership with TAFE Queensland Brisbane and is offered on a part-time basis over 10 weeks.
Hope Street Training programs deliver accreditation in:
Certificate II in Skills for Work/Vocational Pathways in conjunction with either:
- Certificate II in Hospitality – Café and Barista; or
- Certificate II in Hospitality – Kitchen Operations.
These courses are complimented by wrap around support from Micah Projects Support and Advocacy workers to break down barriers to accessing training and employment such as:
- access to childcare
- access to transport
- access to appropriate clothing such as chef shoes, uniforms and aprons.
Upon completion of Formal Training and Work Readiness Training, you will complete four weeks of practical work experience in other local cafés, restaurants and/or other hospitality based local businesses.
Upon completion of the program, you'll have a thorough knowledge of hospitality operations, and hands-on experience.

There’s lots of reasons why people volunteer: to get experience and new skills, meet some new friends, contribute to the community, or maybe just because they’ve got a free weekend here and there.
Hope Street: Eat, Drink, Create, Connect is a social enterprise based in Brisbane providing people with a supported pathway from economic hardship to a sustainable livelihood.
If you’re keen to get involved and work alongside our cooks, baristas and floor staff, there’s plenty of opportunities.
Come down and help us serve our customers, juice up a storm, mix a mocktail, get your hands stuck into some kitchen prep or share your skills with someone else. An RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) is required if you would like to volunteer in the bar.
You can join us for a shift either during the week, or on the weekend. So, if you want to help us out please fill out our volunteer expression of interest form below.

The search to create a home, to have a meaningful and healthy life, to have people in our lives we rely on, to learn and grow personally, to have connection with family and to have a job, are the aspirations we all share.
By making a tax deductible donation to Micah Projects’ Hope Street Café you will directly assist individuals who aspire to employment yet face barriers, including poverty, wellness (physical and mental health), access to stable housing, access to childcare, level of social skills and daily functioning.
Hope Street Café is run by Micah Projects Inc, a not-for-profit organisation committed to providing services and opportunities in the community to create justice and respond to injustice. Read the stories from people we work with.
Please visit the Micah Projects website to donate.
